Four men were stabbed in a street fight as Poplar residents were confined to their homes while police tried to bring the situation under control.
Officers arrived in Findhorn Street after being called to reports of a “large scale fight” breaking out at around 10pm on Monday, August 10.
Residents were told to stay in their homes as they dealt with the brawlers.
Officers found a man suffering from stab wounds who was then taken to an east London hospital and later learned three more had suffered similar injuries and sought treatment independently.
The Evening Standard spoke to nurse Samuel Elliot, 32, following the fight, who said he felt “insecure” and “uncomfortable” in his own home.
He said: “The police officers had cordoned off our house but they were not saying what was going on. There was a long line of youths outside.
“It looked like they were not being allowed to move. At first my reaction was, because I’m a nurse, whether I could do anything to help. But there was a sense from police that I may make it worse.”
Police said no arrests had been made and all the injured men were in a stable condition.
