Members of an east London family have been arrested on suspicion of terrorist offences.
Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command unit raided their home on Wednesday, August 12, where police arrested a 51-year-old man, 53-year-old woman and three teenage girls who are 16, 17 and 19 years old.
They were held on suspicion of possessing information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.
The man was additionally arrested on suspicion of possessing false identity documents with improper intention, contrary to Section 4 of the Identity Documents Act 2010.
One of the women was arrested as part of the same investigation on Thursday, July 2 on suspicion of preparation of terrorism under section 5 of the Terrorism Act, 2006.
She had been released on police bail until September, pending further inquiries.
The five remain in custody while inquiries continue.
Police have not confirmed the exact location of the family’s home.
