A 17-year-old has died after being hit by a car in Stratford.
The girl, identified as Fahmida Zaman, died from head injuries following three days in hospital.
Officers were called to Stratford Broadway at the junction with West Ham Lane, at 8.58pm on Monday, July 6 following reports of a road traffic collision.
They found a 17-year-old girl suffering from critical injuries after being hit by the car. She had been crossing Stratford Broadway in slow moving traffic when she was struck by a silver VW Golf.
The teenager was taken by ambulance to an east London hospital. Next-of-kin were informed and were taken to the hospital by police, but the girl died in hospital three days later.
A post-mortem examination did not take place although cause of death was confirmed as a head injury.
An inquest opened and adjourned at Waltham Forest Coroner’s Court on Monday, July 13.
The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene, and no arrests have yet been made.
DC Neil Green of the serious collision investigation unit is leading the investigation.
He said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision to come forward and speak to police. It may not have been apparent how serious Fahmida’s injuries were at the time of the collision but we need to ensure we have all the information available as to what happened.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit in Chadwell Heath on 020 8597 4874 or the police non-emergency line on 101.
