A 62-round gun salute will be fired from the Tower of London to mark the Duke of Edinburgh's 94th birthday.

The commemorative event for Prince Philip will take place today, June 10, on Gun Park on the Wharf.

The number of rounds represents the basic 21, plus a further 20 because the Tower is a Royal Palace and Fortress as well as another 21 for the City of London.

Spectators can gather on Tower Hill to watch while ticket-holders at the Tower will benefit from a better view at 1pm.

The Wharf will close at least an hour prior to the event.

Saturday will see a further 62 rounds fired from the same historic landmark to represent the Queen's birthday.
