Dead mice and faeces were found at a Bethnal Green curry house during a routine inspection.

Al Amin Tandoori was forced to temporarily close after Tower Hamlets Council inspectors also found that the rodents had “gnawed at food” and packaging.

The mouse droppings were found “throughout the kitchen”, including on chopping boards and in cooking trays, during the inspection last year.

Owner Abdul Noor, of Restons Crescent, Eltham, was fined more than £9,000 following a case at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 8.

He pleaded guilty to six charges that included inadequate control of pests, contamination of equipment and contamination of food.

Tower Hamlets’ cabinet member for the environment Ayas Miah said: “Serious breaches of food hygiene could have a devastating impact on people who trust restaurants in the borough.

“We remind all food outlets of their responsibilities and will take enforcement action against retailers where it is needed.”
