Police who carried out an evening raid on the Isle of Dogs found a cannabis factory inside an office.
Tower Hamlets officers were sent to a business address in Amsterdam Road at 8pm on Tuesday, June 14 after receiving a tip off from a member of the public.
Inside they found an undisclosed quantity of the class B drug being grown.
A source, who did not want to be named, told The Wharf the landlord of the flat had been duped into renting it out to someone who said it would be used as a lettings agency.
“It had been let out for a couple of months but they hadn’t seen anyone there,” said the source.
“Turns out there was a whole room of cannabis growing in there.”
Forensic officers were also at the scene and the source reported that at least one local business had been affected after Police ordered the power to the office block to be switched off before they entered for safety reasons.
A spokesperson for the Met said: “On Tuesday, June 14, at approximately 8pm, Police in Tower Hamlets attended a business address in Amsterdam Road after receiving reports that the premises were being used to cultivate cannabis.
“Officers attended and found a quantity of cannabis plants growing.”
No arrests have been made and Police inquiries continue.
