London Euston is the dirtiest major station in the country, according to passengers.

The latest survey by watchdog Transport Focus shows that only 60% of passengers at Euston were happy with the cleanliness of the trains.

This was the lowest hygiene score of any train station in Britain operated by Network Rail, which is most of the largest ones.

Euston is the London terminus for the West Coast Main Line, the route for trains to and from Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

London’s rail users are relatively unimpressed with several other stations. Only 62% of passengers at London Bridge and 74% of those at London Victoria were happy with the cleanliness of the stations.

Birmingham New Street scored a relatively low 67%, although bosses there will be hoping for an improvement after the recent £750million renovation of the station and the Grand Central shopping complex.

The figures come from the latest spring 2015 survey into rail passenger satisfaction, conducted by Transport Focus.
