A body found in the Thames is believed to be that of east Londoner Belinda Ball, who had been who had been missing for days.
Police pulled a body from the water in the early hours of Saturday, July 25, near Poplar.
Although it no formal identification has been made, detectives looking for Ms Ball, 52, said they had notified her family.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said the discovery of the body was not being treated as suspicious.
He said: “Police searching for Ms Ball are investigating the unexplained death of a woman.
“Shortly after 1.30am, the body of a woman was recovered from the water.”
A missing person’s appeal had been launched after Ms Ball disappeared from her home in Hackney on Wednesday, July 22.
