A woman has been caught on CCTV taking a cheeky stroll through the Blackwall Tunnel to North Greenwich.

Seen with a shopping bag in hand and a high-vis jacket on, the woman caused delays on the Southern approach to the tunnel on Tuesday, July 28, at around 9pm.

Police picking up the woman in the tunnel

People were quick to take to Twitter to criticise the walker and to offer their advice on how police should deal with her (although many mistake her for a man).

The woman was also captured on CCTV being taken away by the police, who took her to a "place of safety" and issued her a fine for an undisclosed amount.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called at 20:54hrs on Tuesday, 28 July to reports of a woman walking in the Blackwall Tunnel southbound towards Greenwich.

"The southbound tunnel was closed for a short time whilst police attended and detained the woman.

"She was taken out of the tunnel by police to a place of safety and issued with a fine."

According to @TfLTrafficNews people can walk through the tunnel - but on a pavement to the side of the road.
