A man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm after reportedly being spotted in Canary Wharf.

Armed Police swooped on West India Quay after a witness said they saw a man walking over the footbridge from Canary Wharf carrying a shotgun.

Subsequent reports said the incident appeared to be an armed robbery, but police have not confirmed this. Witnesses also suggested the man was wearing fancy dress, again unconfirmed.

“Armed officers attended the scene. A man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.
