1. Walk to Westferry DLR
Simple but effective. It's only seven minutes from One Canada Square at a brisk pace and offers trains to Bank and Tower Gateway. Some of the former have not come from Canary Wharf and so aren't bursting at the seams.
2. Take the D7 or 277 buses to Mile End Tube
Need somewhere on the Central Line. It's not the quickest escape route, but taking the bus up to Mile End can be a good way to beat the crowds.
3. Take the Thames Clippers
Alright, everyone thinks of this, but the extended queues at times of Tube failure are worth it for the fully stocked bar and the sense of serenity you get from gliding up the Thames.
4. Take the DLR to Greenwich and catch a train
This might be a little long-winded, but Greenwich is not far from London Bridge on the train and, if you get a good interchange, you can be in central London in no time.
