London City Airport has won an award for its beneficial impact on the Docklands.
East Ham MP Stephen Timms was successful in nominating the airport as an All-Party Parliamentary Corporate Responsibility Group Responsible Business Champion.
It will now be in the running for a national award.
The celebration coincided with London City Airport’s volunteering fortnight during which 41 staff gave up a combined 315 hours of spare time to create new gardens at Britannia Village Primary school and re-paint Beckton Community Centre’s main hall.
Chief executive officer Declan Collier said: “Our ties to the local area are very important to us and we are always looking at ways we can give something back to the community, whether it be through providing pathways into work for local residents or working with our partners to promote healthy lifestyles.”
