Canary Wharf IT apprentice Sadia Chuhan, 20, has won the Rising Star In IT 2015 award at the Everywoman In Technology Awards.
The apprentice project manager with Thomson Reuters, was recognised for her positive attitude and the impact she has made, which has encouraged the media and technology company to expand its apprenticeship programme.
She beat two other nominees to the award at the Hilton Hotel, on Park Lane and joins a select group of women recognised as being go-getters within the industry.
Sadia said: “I’m really delighted to have won this award and thank my mum for pushing me to do an apprenticeship.”
Sadia was placed in her apprenticeship role at Thomson Reuters after attending a bootcamp and training sessions run by Tower Hamlets College to help prepare apprentices for interviews and assessments.
The college has placed more than 200 apprentices into leading London businesses and runs bootcamps at its George Green campus on East India Dock Road.
The awards champion the advancement of woman in technology and showcase the diversity of talents throughout the industry.
It is also an opportunity for the IT industry to close the gender gap, as only 16% of women fill roles in the IT and telecoms industries.
