Turn up, tone up is the Our Parks motto – and training in the rain is standard.
Set up by east Londoner and decathlete Born Barikor after the London 2012 Games, he say it was “a call” to do something better for the community.
Born said: “The great thing about East Village is the Olympic Legacy and being in possibly the best place in the UK.
“Its been fantastic – the aim was to make a social, cohesive group exercise programme and here there are all these great new flats and people moving in not knowing anyone.
“At our classes they just start talking to each other and it’s the best way to make friends.”
Working out with the Our Parks crew feels like being one of the cool kids in East Village’s vast, urban playground.
As builders munch their butties nearby, abs are burning, thighs are pounding and we’re switching from star jumps to sliders and step-ups to squats.
It’s a perfect excuse to abandon the office for some fresh-air fitness and it’s free.
Don’t be deceived by the innocuous sounding class name – this isn’t a chance to sunbathe amid apartment blocks, with a few sporadic sit-ups.
It’s an intense yet feel-good 60-minutes of cardio and toning, crammed with encouragement and coupled with an infectious group spirit.
There’s the sight of Westfield Stratford City – huge motivation for squeezing into that LBD you won’t find staring at the walls of the gym.
“I’ll get a cute bum after this,” squeals a Parkie.
