Pound the pavements of east London while supporting Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.

The Beat the Street walking initiative has been launched across Tower Hamlets and Newham as well as Waltham Forest and Hackney and will run until mid November.

More than 11,000 residents across the four boroughs have signed up since September, clocking up nearly 14,000 miles.

Individuals or teams can take part by collecting a card and tapping onto Beat Boxes posted around the boroughs to register their scores.

By doing so they will be in with a chance of winning prizes such as tickets to London Lions basketball games at the Olympic Park or a trip to the ArcelorMittal Orbit.

The walker who takes the most steps in Tower Hamlets will also scoop a £100 voucher for Decathlon.

Sponsored by the National Charity Partnership the eight-week event marks a partnership with the two charities and Tesco.
