Have you started Marie Kondo-ing your life yet?
Japanese organising consultant Kondo, has followed up her bestselling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tiding Up with another called Spark Joy: An Illustrated Guide To The Japanese Art of Tidying.

Cue everyone I know blocking days in their diary to tackle their tidying, posting pics of mountains of spoons (Kondo advises purging by category, rather than household room), and geometrically folded jumpers.
Kondo recommends you sort the least emotionally trying category first, so clothing, then books, then kitchenware etc.
She instructs you to only keep things that “spark joy” when you hold them in your hands.
This led to a weird moment when my partner asked what a ripped electric blue and gold wrap skirt from Thailand was, and I snapped: “It’s joy.” Perhaps I’m not doing it right.
Why is Kondo’s technique so popular? A friend suggested it was a reaction to our over-cluttered lives.
Everything is full: our work schedules, our diaries, our inboxes, our phones, our homes. And all this stuff doesn’t make us happy. In fact, it makes us stressed.
When I stay in a hotel, I love unpacking my case. Putting everything neatly away is a luxury I never seem to pull off at home.
I moved from my student digs, to a Docklands studio, then a Limehouse two-bed flat, then out to a suburban four-bed house. And with each move I’ve expanded to fill the space.
I was happier in the shoebox of an E14 studio, where my possessions were controlled by me, instead of vice versa.
And so I’m eliminating and rehoming all my stuff. I yearn for the pared back living I enjoyed in my early 20s. I give it five minutes.
