Igor Mitoraj - Testa Addormenta (1983)
Rooted in the classical traditional, Igor Mitoraj's sculpture is elegant and imposing.

Testa Addormentata, an oversized, bandaged head, can be found outside 40 Bank Street.
Like much of his work, it employs the theme of the fragility of humanity.
Detached from the assumed body, the sculpture can also be seen to be making a comment on the damage caused to the great statues from antiquity.
Beautifully crafted, the piece is typical of Mitoraj's monumental work, which dominates squares and courtyards across Europe.
Testa Addormentata, is one of three Mitoraj creations in Canary Wharf. Centurione 1, an incomplete noble mask and the partial figure of a mythical centaur, Centuauro, are the others.
Igor Mitoraj is a Polish artist. He divided his time between his studios in Paris and Piertrasanta.
