Departures from London City Airport have been suspended following a technical problem at the southern England air traffic control system that has closed down London air space.

Passengers are being urged to contact their airlines for further information but flights are likely to be grounded until 7pm.

A man was rushed to hospital after falling from an escalator at Canary Wharf Underground station on Thursday evening.

The incident, which happened at around 11pm, saw parts of the station closed off as police gave him emergency treatment while waiting for an ambulance crew.

Five new retail units will open in Canary Wharf station next spring, Transport for London has announced.

West Ham: Allardyce hopeful of keeping Winston Reid

With West Ham fans eager to see star defender Winston Reid sign a contract extension, manager Sam Allardyce urged the defender to stay and said a rival club would need to break the bank to see the Hammers release him early.


Wapping Hockey Club has grown hugely in its last season, with more than 100 new players and the Men's 1s just one point from promotion into the national league.


Ahead of the away game against struggling side Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, West Ham manager Sam Allardyce stressed that his side should be judged at the end of January.

After an excellent opening 15 games of the season, the Hammers are currently occupying the last Champions League spot, ahead of the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
