A canopy of umbrellas arrived at Reuters Plaza on Monday morning to publicise Canary Wharf's new Wi-fi.

Canary Wharf received a double broadband boost this week with news its internet exchange was to be upgraded while free Wi-fi on the estate was launched.

BT Openreach announced the exchange would be among those to receive optical fibre connections.

Free wifi will be offered to those in Canary Wharf's offices, streets, shopping malls and parks from the end of this summer.


So who is right in the battle for broadband? BT, which proclaims that London is the No.1 choice for businesses because of its high levels of connectivity (tethered to a multi-billion rolling upgrade in infrastructure).

Or the entrepreneurs working at the silicon-face of the east London Tech City dream.

Stratford among first to get wifi link

Stratford has been named as one of the first underground stations that will be wifi enabled for free this summer.

The Olympic hub will be among the first to launch along with Oxford Circus, Liverpool Street and Leicester Square. Some 80 more stations will come online by the end of July.
