Education Secretary Nicky Morgan has called for an immediate response from six independent Muslim schools in Tower Hamlets after education watchdog Ofsted said pupils might have been left vulnerable to radicalisation and their welfare put "at serious risk''.

The findings of the report into a seventh state school, Sir John Cass Foundation and Red Coat Church of England School in Stepney, had been leaked ahead of the publication date but now the full scale of the concerns has become clear.


A Tower Hamlets school has been placed into special measures by education watchdog Ofsted over concerns about a sixth form Islamic society's links to radical preachers.

Sir John Cass Foundation and Redcoat Church of England School in Stepney is accused of failing its safeguarding duties after not monitoring the society's online activity. It is the first school outside Birmingham to be failed on such safeguarding issues.


The Mayor of Tower Hamlets has given his official response to the prospect of Commissioners arriving at the Town Hall to take over certain council functions.

Mayor Lutfur Rahman said he finds their instructions "to be excessive and disproportionate" to the findings of a report by PwC.


The High Court has rejected Tower Hamlets' second legal challenge to the Government's moves to instal commissioners in the Town Hall to oversee some aspect of the council's functions.

An earlier hearing had called the application for a judicial review of the decision "hopeless" but Mayor Lutfur Rahman's administration pushed ahead with an oral hearing anyway.
