johnbiggs142WEBBY.jpgThe Olympics have, I think, been a spectacular success and, as I write, the Paralympics are underway, with an impressive opening ceremony and hopes of continuing those achievements.

And most of my constituents, while clearly inconvenienced with bursting trains and congested roads, have not seen the catastrophic gridlock some feared.

johnbiggs142WEBBY.jpgThis is my last column before the Olympics, so it's an opportunity for me to hope for a successful Games, including maximum UK success, with as little disruption as possible to the other parts of our lives in London.

All is looking good, although many of us are anxious about the traffic and transport disruption.


Part-time Credit Suisse worker Adbul Buhari has made it into the Great Britain Olympic squad for this summer's Games.

The discus thrower is joined by east London medal hopefuls Mo Farah, Christine Ohuruogu and Perri Shakes-Drayton in the team of 71 unveiled on Tuesday afternoon.


The Royal Docks will come alive to the splashing and shouts of a record number of young competitors in the London Youth Games Regatta on Saturday.

Some 900 contestants, aged nine to 17, will represent 30 London boroughs - three times the number that took part when the event was launched in 2008.

The men's artistic team failed to qualify last year after finishing 10th at the World championships in Tokyo but won by a good margin in last night's competition.
