It was a summer that saw the working man fight back. And it happened here, 125 years ago this week.


Tower Hamlets firefighters have issued a further eight days of strikes in a row over pensions.

The strikes are being called in due to "unsafe" proposals from the government, which would see firefighters rescuing people and putting out blazes at 60 years old.


RMT members working to maintain the track on the Jubilee Line are being balloted for strike action in a dispute over the withdrawal of rest days.

Greenwich Council occupational therapists are going on strike tomorrow in protest to an alleged "bullying culture" within the authority.

The employees will strike for 24, after a return of a 100 percent vote through Unite, which is the biggest union in the country.



The relief that the second Tube strike failed to materialise led to palpable relief from London commuters.

But it also threw into stark relief the level to which the journey to work affects workers' general moods.
