Around 90% of runners are wearing the wrong trainers. That's the view of Asics store supervisor and triple jump fanatic Jason Richards-Thompson.

Thousands ran in the London Marathon yesterday, raising millions for charities around the world.

Participants set-off from Greenwich just after 10am, running past Woolwich Common, Cutty Sark and Deptford Park along the route.

Runners passed through the iconic high-rise towers at Canary Wharf at the 18th mile and then they returned west towards The Mall for the finish.

Nation's favourite Mo Farah completed his marathon debut in 2hr 8min 21sec, just four minutes behind Kenya's Wilson Kipsang, who won with a course-record time of 2hr 4min 29sec.

perri142.jpgTower Hamlets athlete Perri Shakes Drayton missed qualification for the 400m hurdles final by just one hundredth of a second at the World Athletics Championships.

Shakes Drayton clocked 55.07 seconds in finishing third in her semi-final this morning, only to be pipped as a fastest loser by Ukrainian Anastasya Rabchenyuk, who ran 55.06 secs.
