The Mayor of Newham has expressed his disappointment at the way the Government has decided to allocate school building funds and says the availability of school places has been affected.

The borough will get money under the Priority School Building Programme for one school and maintenance for another. An application for a third and a bid to improve special education provision were rejected.

Newham mayor Sir Robin Wales says he is ready to sidestep central government to build a bridge across the Thames at Gallions Reach.
