A group of MPs have written to Boris Johnson urging for him to push ahead on a consultation on the proposed Thames bridge at Gallions Reach.

A consultation into river crossings earlier this year showed, as well as backing a tunnel at Silvertown, the public wanted a new bridge further east, rather than Transport for London's proposal of a new ferry in the region.


A leading figure in the Green Party has promised to scupper plans for east London river crossings and said politicians in support of them were sacrificing health for small economic benefit.

Darren Johnson hosted a meeting of academics and environmentalists against the proposed Silvertown Tunnel and the Gallions Reach crossings last week.

As the consultation into the need for more river crossings approaches its final week the campaigns of the two opposing views are becoming more and more visible.


Businesses in Greenwich and Newham have thrown their w eight behind a campaign for more river crossings in east London.

The borough councils are pushing for a new bridge at Gallions Reach and a new tunnel of Silvertown - and now businesses have said that a lack of crossings is hampering growth.
