Rioter who helped ransack Woolwich is jailed

The longest sentence handed down in connection with the London riots has been given to a 22-year-old who threw bricks at officers inside a police car in Woolwich.

Johanson Ago, of no fixed address, was given five years and four months in prison for the attack, as well as six burglaries committed during the disorder.

Images of suspects in last week's Woolwich riots have been released.

Police are asking the public to help identify those in the pictures who are believed to have taken part in looting and criminal damage in last Monday's attacks.

The Woolwich community is beginning the long clean-up following a night of severe vandalism and looting across the town.

Shop-owners were inspecting the damage to their stores after the riot which also saw the Wetherspoon's pub almost completely destroyed by fire.


Workers, police and politicians are beginning to tackle the mess left by a third night of rioting across the capital.

Town centres such as Woolwich, East Ham and Lewisham saw major clashes as looters took advantage of stretched police numbers while smaller scale criminal activity broke out in Canning Town and Stratford.

Stratford is on riot alert with shops closing early and office workers advised to leave early. Social networks have indicated that something will happen around 7pm.
