TV presenter David Dimbleby is dropping anchor in Greenwich as part of a series of events at the National Maritime Museum to accompany his major new series.

Made in partnership with NMM, Britain And The Sea (BBC), which began on Sunday, explores the British coastline and sees the 75-year-old presenter set sail on his boat Rocket to hear stories of the maritime nation.

Acclaimed paintings by George Stubbs of a kangaroo and a dingo will be on show full-time at Greenwich's National Maritime Museum following a donation of £1.5million.


From this distance, Britain's unrivalled national hero Horatio Nelson appears to embody the entire span of glittering age of naval dominance such is his pre-eminence in our cultural consciousness.

And yet, definitive though his actions were, they spanned only a few years at the tail-end of the 1700s through to his victory - and celebrated death - at Trafalgar in 1805.
