Labour's Sir Robin Wales has been elected mayor of Newham for the fourth time.

It was a comfortable victory for Sir Robin who has held the post since 2002. He won with 61.18% of the first votes from the 47,095 electors who turned out on Thursday.

The election to decide who will be Tower Hamlets' first executive mayor is almost upon us. Voters go to the polls on October 21 to decide who should run the council and its £1billion a year budget.
