It started out as a tiny local authority initiative screening a handful of locally-made short films. Now the East End Film Festival (EEFF) has become one of the UK's largest international events of its kind.

This month sees the festival celebrating its 13th anniversary with 15 world, eight European, 25 UK and 15 London premieres.

Of all the Big Ideas bequeathed by the Blair government, the one that has intrigued foreign leaders more than most is his Delivery Unit, headed up by Sir Michael Barber in the early 2000s.

The idea that success is the mundane application of a handful of disciplines ("government by routine, not government by spasm") may not appeal to a politician's ego, the glossy brochure industry or the media but "it works", says Sir Michael.

Land Registry house prices to December 2013, saw prices in London up 11.2% during 2013.

12 areas of London saw prices rocket by more than 10% in 2013 with Hackney seeing a 17.2% change that made the average price worth £500,000. Also in the top 10 were Lewisham and Barking and Dagenham.

A man alleged to have made videos glorifying the murder of Lee Rigby, including one called "Muslim laughs at British soldier killing", is due to appear in court on Monday.

Royal Barnes, 22, who lives in Hackney, has been charged with dissemination of terrorist publications, encouragement of terrorism and inciting terrorism overseas.
