More than 60 people were forced to flee a hotel and apartment block in West India Quay yesterday.

A fire broke out on the 24th floor of the building in Hertsmere Road, which is also home to the London Marriott Hotel West India Quay.


Firefighters battled a blaze in Coldharbour on the Isle of Dogs after flats caught alight on Tuesday.

London Fire Brigade instructed residents in the block to remain in their homes to avoid smoke inhalation.

Fire crews tackling a warehouse blaze in Canning Town on Saturday night rescued a man from the first floor of the burning building.

Fifteen fire engines from across the capital and two cherry pickers were used in the incident at Shipman Road which began around 11pm.


Drivers travelling through Dagenham on the A13 have been warned to close car windows after 150 tonnes of metal caught fire.

Smoke was billowing from the scrapyard at Chequers Lane as around 12 fire crews battled to put it out. The blaze began at around 3.30pm on Friday.
