Fire crews tackling a warehouse blaze in Canning Town on Saturday night rescued a man from the first floor of the burning building.

Fifteen fire engines from across the capital and two cherry pickers were used in the incident at Shipman Road which began around 11pm.


Drivers travelling through Dagenham on the A13 have been warned to close car windows after 150 tonnes of metal caught fire.

Smoke was billowing from the scrapyard at Chequers Lane as around 12 fire crews battled to put it out. The blaze began at around 3.30pm on Friday.


Fire crews from across east London battled a blaze at a Canning Town waste recycling centre throughout Wednesday evening.

Around 60 firefighters attended the incident at Dock Road after being called just before midnight.


Councils including Tower Hamlets and Greenwich have gone to the Royal Courts of Justice in an attempt to thwart cuts imposed by Mayor Boris Johnson on the London Fire Brigade.

The cut-backs will see 10 fire station closures take place in January unless the courts reverse the decision.


The luxury Pan Peninsula penthouse at the centre of a blaze on Monday evening has been revealed to be the home of One Direction star Liam Payne.

A 35-strong team of firefighters were called to reports of a patio heater explosion just after 9.45pm, with 30 other residents fleeing the tower block prior to their arrival.
