A man who broke into a woman's home, raped her twice and made off with electrical goods has been sent to prison for a minimum of six years.

At Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, Salim Ahmed Khan, 38, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to the attack in E1 on February 25 earlier this year.

East End battle remembered

The Battle of Cable Street will be remembered by East Enders at an event next weekend to mark 75 years since those dramatic scenes.

On Saturday, Tower Hamlets Council will join with community groups for events including film screenings, live music and the unveiling of a mural. Activities begin at noon at St George's Town Hall.

The five man gang operated from a unit at Cable Street Studios, which was raided by police on August 27 last year. The premises were used to cut and mix drugs, and officers found cocaine and heroin there with a street value of £11,750, along with over £10,000 in cash.

An elderly war hero was kidnapped and robbed of over £10,000 in what police described as a "terrifying ordeal".

Last Friday at Snaresbrook Crown Court, Nabeel Mahmood, 20, of Mare Street E2, and Craig Clarke, 32, of Forest Gate, both pleaded guilty of robbery, kidnapping and burglary and were each sentenced to six years in prison for the attack.
