DLR should be extended to Thamesmead, says council

A cross river DLR service linking Newham with Thamesmead and Abbey Wood has been proposed by Greenwich Council.

The proposed bridge at Gallions Reach could be paid for by councils if Transport for London drags its feet on the issue.

Greenwich Borough is so adamant the link between Thamesmead and the Royal Docks should be built it has said it and its cross river counterparts Newham could do it.

So it has left politicians and businesses perplexed that Transport for London's solution to a lack of river crossings is to relocate the Woolwich Ferry two miles downstream and bring in a toll.


Mayor Of London Boris Johnson has said that the new tunnel for road traffic under the Thames in east London will be built within the next 10 years.

He will outline the timescale and capacity for a link between Greenwich peninsula and Silvertown at a dinner in the City this evening.

Christopher Christou, 26, of Bolton House in Trafalgar Road, was put under surveillance by the Met Police's Flying Squad for six weeks in May and June and was found to be monitoring cash in transit deliveries in preparation for the robbery.
