Race fans are starting to gather at fan parks and key London locations as Le Tour de France comes to east London.

The caravan - a promotional convoy of vehicles - leaves Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park as 1.20pm this afternoon with the race itself passing through at 2.45pm.


Five men and a youth have been sentenced to a combined total of 36 years in prison for a racially and religiously motivated attack which started in a Tesco's store in Tower Hamlets.

The victims, aged 40 and 49 at the time, were left with a fractured skull and two broken wrists after being beaten with weapons including a baseball bat.

A 71-year-old man was punched and kicked in the face in an unprovoked assault in Newham.

The incident in Grangewood Street, E6, on Friday, comes just five weeks after a 75-year-old woman was punched off her mobility scooter in a similar attack.


Road closures affecting east London during the Tour de France have been announced by Transport for London.

The spectacular event on Monday July 7 will see cyclists race along streets from the Olympic Park, around Canary Wharf and St Katharine Docks, and on their way to central London.
