A carpenter who killed a colleague over £1,360 in unpaid wages has been sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison.

Andrej Malinovskij, 43, of Pheasant Close in E16, had previously taken court action against building subcontractor Evaldas Svolkinas over the debt.

Police were out in force on Thursday as they targeted offenders using east London's road network.

Officers made 40 arrests across nine boroughs, with 10 of them taking place in Newham and two in Tower Hamlets.

On September 11, voters in Newham's Beckton ward elected a new councillor.

The count was quick, efficient, and conducted in a calm and quiet manner. Polling stations were, as we would expect, equally calm and quiet too.
