Work has begun on the demolition of the Robin Hood Gardens Estate.

The '70s development is due to be replaced under the Blackwall Reach Regeneration Programme, which will bring 1,600 new homes to Poplar. The redevelopment will also see public areas transformed and a primary school expanded.

Construction of a 400 home development on the east of the Isle of Dogs will start this summer after it received approval from the Greater London Assembly.

New Union Wharf got the green light from Tower Hamlets Council last month and passed its final hurdle last week.


Approval has been given for a 399 apartment development to be built on the east of the Isle of Dogs.

Tower Hamlets councillors gave the New Union Wharf scheme the thumbs-up at a strategic development committee meeting last Thursday.


There's an ice cream van selling drugs on Galbraith Street.

And that's not all. Drunks are shouting late into the night and tearing around Virginia Quay. New Union Wharf residents aren't happy about graffiti, drug dealing and vandalism, and there isn't enough lighting in St John's Park.


Residents of an Isle of Dogs estate have won a small victory over drug use under their noses.

Occupants of New Union Wharf have complained of persistent drug problems on the estate for several months, with youths dealing and smoking cannabis outside and from an untaxed car.
