The Royal Docks is now home to the country's largest statue made of bronze after Athena was unveiled on Thursday morning.
The sculpture. a labour of love of international artist Nasser Azam, sits on the Connaught Bridge to the west of London City Airport and will welcome passengers in to the region.
Used to stunning views of the East End on their landings at London City Airport, passengers will also soon be greeted by a 12-metre statue of a Greek goddess.
With back arched and arms outstretched Athena, who represents wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilisation and war, will be placed at the Airport Roundabout in Hartman Road, facing east as planes fly overhead.
A sculpture of a Greek goddess could be welcoming visitors to London City Airport.
Called London Athena, the 12metre high piece of art will be positioned on a roundabout leading up to the airport if passed through by Newham Council's strategic development committee next Tuesday.
