Tower Hamlets Council is preparing to acquire the property rights to the City Pride development by using a planning loophole.


A High Court case challenging the Tower Hamlets mayoral election in May will begin on February 2, it has been revealed.

A total of nine weeks have been set aside for the hearing, although a venue has yet to be decided on.


Detailed claims of voter fraud, intimidation and false representation have been submitted to the High Court by a group contesting the validity of May's Tower Hamlets election.


Tower Hamlets Council said a Palestinian flag placed outside its town hall was torn down in an act of "perceived vandalism".

In a move which saw it criticised by the government, council staff had put up the symbol at Mulberry Place on Wednesday following a decision by Mayor Lutfur Rahman.


Tower Hamlets mayor Lutfur Rahman is claiming petitioners contesting his election win have "no evidence" despite High Court judges giving the go-ahead to an inquiry into the vote.

And petitioners have accused the mayor and the election's returning officer John Williams of squandering money on the unsuccessful appeal.
