The 75-storey City Pride development has been given the nod by Tower Hamlets planning committee.

Councillors met yesterday, Thursday, for a final discussion about the Westferry Road scheme which was rejected on height and density grounds last month.


Tower Hamlets Council's planning committee will meet again on Thursday to discuss the proposed City Pride development.

Last month, the 984 apartment scheme at Westferry Road was rejected on height and density grounds despite planning officers recommending the proposal for approval.

However, mystery surrounds just who has bought the pub site in Westferry Road, along with a linked site at Island Point at the southern end of the Isle of Dogs.

The popular Canary Wharf pub was earmarked for demolition after Glenkerrin received planning approval two years ago to build a 62 storey tower on the land.


Boris Johnson has approved Glenkerrin's linked Island Point and Pride proposals on Westferry Road.

The London Mayor followed Tower Hamlets Council in backing the plans this week, despite concerns from neighbours about their high density and effect on light.
