The 16-year-old, from Abbey Wood, cannot be named for legal reasons. He was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court today after pleading guilty to setting fire to the Great Harry pub in Wellington Street on August 8.

Viet Hoang, 20, of Valerian Way in West Ham, was sentenced to 27 months in prison after being found guilty of possession of an offensive weapon.

Emile Obidike, 35, of Heathhurst Road in Croydon, was given an eight-month sentence at Inner London Crown Court.

A former Commonwealth Games sprinter who defrauded Newham Council out of thousands of pounds has escaped a prison sentence.

Matthew Thomas, 34, of Purley in Croydon, took part in athletics events and ran coaching sessions while off sick with a back injury from his job as a payroll officer at the council.
