A resident said to me this week that we had anticipated every eventuality for the Olympics except the weather.

Certainly there has been little evidence of flaming June as the Diamond Jubilee appeared to be as rain swept as the Coronation in 1953.

Well, didn't we do well. The last few days, The Diamond Jubilee celebrations, have seen the British public at its very best.

With true Bulldog spirit, we have braved the predictably unpredictable British weather, out in force, waving our flags in celebration of a remarkable individual.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee is upon us, and I'm delighted to say that the event is going to be celebrated in a traditional East End fashion, with plenty of street parties and bunting.

I am going to be attending as many as these events as I can, and am also looking forward to the grand river pageant that will pass through our borough.


Beacons will be lit across London to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee this weekend, including four in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

The O2 entertainment venue, Woolwich, Eltham and Maritime Greenwich have all been confirmed for the ceremony at 10pm on June 4, just before the head of state lights the National Beacon.

The borough was beaten by Chelmsford, Perth and St Asaph who have been awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee civic honour Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg announced today.
