Greenwich Peninsula is set to have a party beach this summer after plans were passed through for an outdoor live entertainment area.

The site at Delta Wharf, to the west of the peninsula, could be transformed as early as May despite concerns from nearby residents over noise.

Dutch company Orange Connections have resubmitted an application to use Delta Beach, on the west side of the peninsula, for at least 12 events a year. Greenwich's licensing sub-committee will consider the new application next Wednesday.

Greenwich Council has received a planning Delta Beach, on the western side of the peninsula, for the building of a stage, beach hut and car park for a series of live events from next March.

The Council has turned down applications for licences for the events following a meeting at Woolwich Town Hall yesterday. It cited a lack of detail in the plans.

The Peninsula Festival is planned for land close to The O2 before and during the Games, with up to 45,000 people expected to attend on some days. Live music and extended drinking hours are on the agenda, as well as a campsite for festival-goers to use.
