A controversial application to build a 75-storey skyscraper on the site of the former City Pride pub has been given the green light - despite being rejected by Tower Hamlets councillors last month.

The scheme, by developers Chalegrove Properties Limited, will see private housing focussed on the north of the island, with the social housing shunted to a separate scheme.

The landowner of the former City Pride pub has announced it is to submit a planning application for the site's development.

Chalegrove Properties Limited, which also owns the nearby Landmark buildings, said its proposal includes a mixed-use tower with a roof terrace and basement car parking.

WE are all pretty used to working at cloud level on the Wharf nowadays.

But the full impact does not really hit you until you lean over the edge of a concrete frame a hundred metres up with just a hard hat for comfort.

Last week The Wharf was invited by the Young Group to check on the progress of its Landmark development, which will house 644 new residential units to the Marsh Wall area.
