A restaurant owner representing campaigners calling for a recount of the Tower Hamlets council elections has had a window at his property smashed and paint poured over his van.

The attack on Azmal Hussain's restaurant and vehicle came just a day after activists served Mayor Lutfur Rahman and returning officer John Williams with court notices.

Little wonder Tower Hamlets Mayor Lutfur Rahman is so exercised by statements put out in his name which seemingly gave cover to radical preacher Anjem Choudary's visit to Brick Lane a week ago.

Choudary - the Katie Hopkins of hate preachers - threatened hellfire and whippings to Muslims selling alcohol along the traditional stretch of curry houses and bars.

Truman's brewery returns to east London

After a 24 year absence since the closure of its site in Brick Lane, brewery Truman's is making a return this weekend.

Following a £1million investment it's setting up base at Hackney Wick, where it will become the biggest cask ale producer in east London.

AlMurrayWeb.jpegOpposers to this year's Brick Lane Comedy Festival have had the last laugh, as the event has been cancelled with less than a month's notice.

The festival, due to feature comedians Al Murray and Ed Byrne, had to relocate this year from the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, after four years at the venue due to a lack of funding from Greenwich council.



A pleasant vibe and decent specials at this Brick Lane restaurant.
