An earlier police crash at the Rotherhithe Tunnel and broken down vehicles in the Blackwall crossing have led to traffic delays across east London's roads.

The incident at Rotherhithe, which saw three people taken to hospital, meant Jamaica Road was closed.


It was an eventful evening for residents in a block of flats in Blackwall, after they were evacuated by fire crews battling a blaze in their building on Tuesday.

A total of 60 people escaped the nine-storey New Providence Wharf, in Fairmont Avenue, when officers received a call about the incident shortly after 9pm.

The latest consultation into east London's needs for more river crossings has included a proposal to charge users of the Blackwall Tunnel.

Transport for London launched the second phase of its investigation on Monday, which looks at building a tunnel at Silvertown and placing a ferry system between Thamesmead and Beckton.
