Stitched messages on cards sent from the frontline of conflict are an emotional inspiration for designer Claire Swindale.

The Blackheath creative has drawn on a family treasure - one of five patterned documents sent from her great grandfather Francis Swindale to his wife Minnie - to create a silk square scarf commemorating the 100th anniversary of the First World War this year.

Police have named a motorcyclist who died in a crash on the A2 last Thursday as 42-year-old Christopher Wallace Muir from Sevenoaks.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place at the Kidbrooke interchange at 5.30pm, to come forward.

Police closed Blackheath to traffic on Sunday afternoon after an accident left a cyclist hospitalised.

The female, believed to be aged around 55, was in collision with a bus. Her injuries are not understood to be life threatening.
