Jeff Bell - Cast Glass Panels - 1992
Jeff Bell - Cast Glass Panels (1992)
Huge cylindrical structures dominate the corners of Cabot square.
Cast in glass, these glowing panels clad the four ventilation shafts supplying the car park below.
Yorkshire-born artist Jeff Bell is responsible for turning these functional objects into works of art.
Famed for pushing the boundaries of the use of glass, he specialises in designing and producing one of a kind glass sculptures to be used in furniture and architecture.
His past works include a two-storey spiral staircase and a bath tub.
Fragile in appearance yet tough in reality, his work appears in a variety of public spaces including the Natural History Museum, Suffolk County Library and Yorkshire Arts Space in Sheffield.
Jeff Bell has a degree in three dimensional design from Buckingham College. He creates his sculptures by subjecting sheets of raw glass to extreme temperatures in a kiln. As a result of this process every piece he makes has its own unique surface.
