Bruce McLean - Sculptural Railings (1992)
No ordinary railings adorn the pavements alongside Fisherman’s Wharf.

Scottish artist Bruce McLean has flouted tradition and created a bold structure involving solid circles and squares surrounded by abstract shapes and patterns. Instead of historically accepted straight lines, he has interwoven loops and curves into the sculptural surface.
The charcoal steel rail is 40m long and typical of McLean’s humorous and subversive style.
After graduating from St Martins School of Art in the ’60s, he turned away from studio methods of production and began working with transient media such as water and performance.
He currently lectures at the Slade School of Fine Art, London.
