The Waterfront Festival will bring live music, fireworks and water sports to the Royal Docks this September.

On Saturday, September 20, 70s UK soul sensation The Real Thing, home-grown talent Candy Apple Blue and Heart FM's DJ Roberto will play throughout the day.

Visitors can also join the Newham Sea Cadets, row a boat or give wakeboarding and paddle boarding a go (at a reduced cost).

Those who would prefer to stay on dry land can build a coral reef out of recycled materials, pan for gold, have a go on the climbing wall, take part in Zumba and salsa classes on the beach or try their hand at tying knots.

Anyone interested in history can learn more about the docks area with a walking tour by historian and writer Kathy Chater, step on board the steamship SS Robin, which is currently undergoing conservation works, or check out the exhibition commemorating 100 years since the start of World War I.

Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham, said: "The Waterfront Festival is a fantastic opportunity for Newham residents to enjoy a range of different activities in the historic Royal Docks."

September 20, 2-8pm, free, Royal Docks, newham.com.
