New signing Aaron Cresswell says he's determined to mark his first West Ham home game with a win on Saturday.

The Hammers entertain Italian side Sampdoria in their final warm-up before the August 16 league curtain-raiser against Spurs.

And Cresswell is keen on securing the side's first pre-season victory in 90 minutes, with the only success so far coming in penalties against Schalke.

"It's nice to get good results in pre-season friendlies but the main thing is getting fitness levels up and that's what we've been doing," he said.

"There's still one game left and we'll be looking for that victory."

Aaron Cresswell, who moved into his Canary Wharf apartment last week, joined from Ipswich on a five-year contract in July.

The left-back said he has enjoyed his first few weeks at the club.

"It's been a bit hectic," he said. "We went to France, then New Zealand and we just haven't stopped but it's been a great experience.

"Training's been great, I feel sharper but I've not played a Premier League game yet and that's when you know."

Cresswell appeared at The Boleyn three seasons ago in a Championship clash with Ipswich. And the 24-year-old said he's looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd in east London.

"We got a last minute winner in that game," he said. "But it's a great honour to be playing for West Ham. It's a massive club with a very big fanbase."

As for the hopes for the season, the full-back is keen to help the club stay well away from the drop zone.

"Anything above mid-table will be a big achievement but that's what we should be aiming for," he said.

Marathonbet Cup is this Saturday between West Ham and Serie A side Sampdoria. Advance tickets priced at £10 for under 16s and £20 for adults.
