Review: The Waiting Room, Deptford

The Waiting Room

Decked out with vintage furniture, chalkboard menus and a delectable display of sweet treats on the counter, The Waiting Room's not somewhere you'll merely want to pass through.

Although you can easily grab take-out options at this shabby chic veggie and vegan cafe on the High Street, the top-quality grub is worth a more lengthy stay.

I perched on a people-watching oak bar stool to examine the menu which ranges from porridge to burgers via bagels and hot dogs. My falafel wrap with salad (£3.60) was generously stuffed with the chickpea balls and hummus - fresh, moreish and pleasingly hefty for the price.

My pal was equally chuffed with her doorstep mango and brie sandwich (£2).

The two desserts that followed - a vegan carrot cake (£2.50) and gluten-free chocolate, peanut and salted caramel flapjacks (£2.70) to share - were gorgeous.

The cake had the perfect blend of spices and indulgent frosting though it was the creamy chocolate stuffed with nuts and crispy oats that will see me make a speedy return.
