Police are appealing for witnesses after a 33-year-old suffered near fatal injuries in a violent robbery in Newham.

The man, a father of a 14-month-old girl, was stabbed in the leg at around 7pm on July 29 at Jake Russell Walk in the Royal Docks.

He was walking in the area when a man approached him and demanded his bag.

The suspect is described as black, around 25-30 years old, 5ft, 8ins, of stocky build, with a dense moustache and goutee.

He was riding a black mountain bike, which looked to be too small for the rider.

After the attack he fled towards Victoria Dock Road.

The victim underwent emergency surgery and is now expected to make a full recovery.

Police have released an image of a bag similar to one which was taken in the attack and is yet to be recovered.

They said the missing one was dark brown with tan piping around the edges. The Adidas logo and writing were smaller and in the top left hand corner. It has three tan diagonal stripes on the bottom right hand corner.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Katie Bennett from Newham CID on 0208 217 5402/5085.
